  EFFECT OF CEO2 ON THERMAL AND STRUCTURAL PROPERTIES OF MAS GLASS (RESEARCH NOTE)

Abstract    In this work, CeO2 was added to the MAS glass system at the expense of TiO2 as nuclei. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) studies show that by CeO2 addition, the surface crystallization trend in MAS glass system was promoted and the crystallization temperature increased Up to 1000°C, but thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) of doped glasses were decreased to 4.23×10-6/°C. The optimum nucleation temperature and densities of nacelles were determined by means of classical SEM method for G8 sample. In addition, according to UV–Vis absorption analysis the absorption bond at 400 nm was appeared which can be attributed to Ce4+ in this system. Also in spite of TiO2, the CeO2 did not enter in to the MAS system during initial steps of crystallization and the cerium aluminate phase formed at 1300°C.
